The City of Dublin announces the temporary closure of Oconee Gym, starting Monday, October 28th, as work begins on the $2.9 million Oconee Gym Renovation Project. Funded in partnership with Laurens County and the State of Georgia, the project will rehabilitate this vital community facility in Dublin’s Southside neighborhood.
The gym, once home to the "Mighty Trojans" of Oconee High School, has served the community for decades but is now in critical disrepair. The renovation will transform the space, providing new recreational opportunities such as basketball, fitness classes, and mentorship programs, with a projected completion date in Summer 2025.
Mayor Kight said, "The Oconee Gym Renovation Project is a point of pride for our Southside neighborhood and all of Dublin. This investment will transform the old gym into a safe, active space for our young people and families, promoting health, wellness, and community engagement."
The gym is part of Oconee Park, also known as Roscoe Brower Park, a 15-acre greenspace featuring outdoor recreation facilities along with the gymnasium. Once completed, the renovated gym will serve as a hub for the entire community.
