The City of Dublin Engineering Department prepares design work and construction contracts for improvement to the city’s transportation, water, sewer, and natural gas systems. Requests for improvement are evaluated individually and alternative solutions are formulated to develop the most cost-effective means of addressing problems.
The Engineering Department provides full inspection of each contract awarded through the City of Dublin; further, this department monitors construction to ensure that workmanship and materials are in accordance with written plans and specifications.
Annually, the Engineering Department inspects and develops a plan of repair and maintenance to all existing city streets. This process includes preparing a program for bidding, overseeing paving operations for compliance with program specifications for construction, and maintaining records of street maintenance for future use.
Streets are evaluated for resurfacing using the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Pavement Condition Evaluation System (PACES) program. PACES takes the existing surface conditions and the average annual daily traffic (ADDT) of each roadway and assigns a score. The Engineering Department reviews and approves plans for new streets and drainage facilities within proposed subdivisions constructed by private developers. In this process, proposed plans are reviewed for compliance with standards and, if approved, monitoring of the construction of such streets and facilities is also overseen by the Engineering Department. This department also reviews plans for all new commercial development, taking in the impact of such development on existing traffic patterns and drainage facilities.
The Engineering Department oversees the operation and maintenance of all city-maintained traffic signals.
